Car hire Agadir airport: pickup, deposit and road tips
Some buttons on this page link to vrooem.com, where you compare and book the offer of international rental companies. Our guides are written independently.
Car hire Agadir airport with Green Motion or U-Save starts outside, not at a desk in the arrivals hall. At Agadir-Al Massira (AGA), both send a representative with a sign board to the terminal exit and drive you by shuttle bus to their office, while EMR, the third company Vrooem offers here, sets out its pickup in your booking. This guide covers that meeting point, the office hours, which card the deposit needs, the A3 toll motorway towards Marrakech and the day trips that make a car worth having in the Souss region.
The rules below come from the companies’ Moroccan terms and official location pages, from Autoroutes du Maroc, from Morocco’s national tourism office and from GOV.UK, all checked on 1 October 2026. Green Motion’s Moroccan terms state that they are written for bookings on its own website and that a booking through a third party follows the rental voucher. So when you book through Vrooem, the conditions shown with your offer and on your voucher have the final word.
Car hire Agadir airport: who meets you, and where
According to Green Motion’s Agadir airport page, Agadir-Al Massira lies about 25 km southeast of the city. Green Motion and U-Save do not hand over keys inside the terminal: they work from their own office and bring you there.
| Company | Meeting point | Then | Office hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Green Motion | Representative with a sign board outside the terminal exit | Shuttle bus to the office | 07:00 to 23:00, every day, bank holidays included |
| U-Save | Representative with a sign board outside the terminal exit | Shuttle bus to the office | 07:00 to 23:00, every day, bank holidays included |
| EMR | Agadir airport, as listed in the offer | Pickup details with your booking | As stated with your booking |
At Agadir, Green Motion and U-Save are one branch under two names. Their official location records give the same address (Agadir Airport, BP 2000), the same two help numbers, the same Moroccan reservations email and the same opening hours, and the pickup instruction is word for word identical apart from the brand. Whichever name is on your voucher, you look for the same sign. Our comparison of Green Motion and U-Save explains how the two brands relate across their shared branches.
How the arrival goes, step by step:
- Before you fly, save the two phone numbers from the pickup instructions on your voucher, so you can call without searching for them on arrival.
- After baggage and customs, leave the terminal by the exit and look for the representative holding the sign board.
- If you cannot see anyone, call one of the two numbers rather than looking for a desk inside.
- At the office, show your voucher (printed or on your phone, both terms accept either), your licence, your passport or national ID card and the card for the deposit, then inspect the car before you drive off.
EMR’s offers on Vrooem name Agadir airport as the pickup location. Its deposit and mileage terms are listed with each offer, so read those lines on the booking page, and follow the pickup details on your booking confirmation.
Office hours, late flights and delays
The Green Motion and U-Save office at the airport keeps the same hours seven days a week: 07:00 to 23:00, with bank holidays on the same schedule. A flight that lands in the late evening is therefore the main thing to plan around.
- Out of hours: both Moroccan terms treat a pickup or return outside opening hours as a request, not a right. It cannot be guaranteed, and where the branch agrees, an extra fee applies. Contact the branch before you travel if your flight lands close to 23:00.
- Delayed flights: Green Motion holds a reservation for 2.5 hours after the booked pickup time and U-Save for 3 hours. After that it counts as a no-show. Both terms say the flight number you give is for information only, so tell the branch yourself if you are running late.
- Returns: the return day and time on your rental agreement stay fixed even if you collected the car late. Both terms allow a grace period of 59 minutes; after that an extra charge applies.
Keep the branch’s numbers and your booking reference at hand on the day: if the flight is late or the sign board is not at the exit, a call from the terminal sorts it out faster than a search for a desk.
Deposit and cards: what the desk blocks
Both companies block a security deposit on the main driver’s card at pickup. It is a pre-authorisation, not a payment: the money stays in your account but is unavailable until your bank releases it, usually 5 to 15 days after the rental according to both sets of terms, sometimes longer depending on the card and the country that issued it.
The card itself has to meet a few conditions in both Moroccan terms:
- Visa or Mastercard, in the main driver’s name, with the card number and expiry date clearly visible.
- Valid for at least 2 months beyond the return date.
- American Express, Diners and prepaid cards are not accepted.
- Debit cards: U-Save accepts one for the deposit only with Premium Plus. Green Motion’s Moroccan terms list debit cards as accepted for the deposit, and repeat it under Premium Plus.
The amount depends on the package you choose and on the car group. For the entry-level car groups listed first in each table (Green Motion MR-A and MR-B, U-Save MR-UA and MR-UB), the terms set these levels; for larger car groups the amounts are higher.
| Package | Green Motion: excess / deposit | U-Save: excess / deposit |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | MAD 17,500 / MAD 17,500 | MAD 17,000 / MAD 17,000 |
| Plus | MAD 9,000 / MAD 9,000 | MAD 8,500 / MAD 8,500 |
| Premium | MAD 4,750 / MAD 4,750 | MAD 4,250 / MAD 4,250 |
| Premium Plus | MAD 0 / MAD 2,500 | MAD 0 / MAD 2,000 |
So “car hire in Agadir with no deposit” does not exist with these two companies, but Premium Plus brings the excess to zero for most car groups and keeps the block at its lowest level. It is also the only package in both terms where glass and tyres are covered; on Basic, Plus and Premium they fall outside the cover. If you buy excess insurance from a third party, both terms say the deposit for your package is still blocked, and any damage is paid to the rental company first and claimed back from that insurer afterwards. For EMR, the deposit for each car is shown with the offer before you book. Our guide to excess and deposit explains how the two amounts work together.
Licence, passport and age at the desk
The Moroccan terms of Green Motion and U-Save ask for the same documents:
- Driving licence: the original physical card, held for at least 1 year. Digital licences are not accepted.
- Alphabet: the licence must be in English, Latin or Roman script; otherwise an international driving permit is required as well.
- Photo ID: a passport or national identity card.
- Consequence: without the required documents the reservation is cancelled at the desk without a refund.
The terms also make the driver responsible for checking whether local law requires a permit. For UK drivers it does: GOV.UK (Morocco travel advice, updated 19 August 2026) says you need the 1968 international driving permit together with your UK licence in the car, that Morocco no longer accepts the 1949 version and that you cannot buy a permit outside the UK. Other nationalities should check with their own licensing authority. Our checklist of documents for renting a car abroad covers the rest.
The minimum age at both companies is 23, with no upper limit. Drivers aged 23 to 25, and drivers aged 65 and over, pay a daily surcharge. Our guide to the young driver surcharge explains how such fees are usually applied.
Fuel: same level or full to full
The fuel rule depends on the package, identically at both companies:
| Package | Fuel rule |
|---|---|
| Basic and Plus | Like for like: return the level you received |
| Premium and Premium Plus | Full to full |
Missing fuel is charged per litre plus a refuelling fee, and the branch may reserve a fuel deposit on your card. Photograph the gauge and the odometer before you leave the office. Green Motion’s Agadir page notes several petrol stations on the road between the airport and the city, which makes it easy to top up on the way back. More on how fuel is settled in our fuel policy guide.
Mileage is unlimited in all four packages at both companies, and both terms say the car must stay in Morocco for the whole rental.
Driving out of Agadir: the A3 motorway and its tolls
Agadir is the southern end of the A3, the motorway that Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM) runs from Casablanca. Its Marrakech to Agadir section is 230 km long, opened on 21 June 2010 and has two lanes in each direction. Heading for Marrakech from Agadir, you pass the interchanges of Amskroud, Argana, Imintanount and Chichaoua. The section crosses the Ameznas and Amezri wadis on viaducts and runs through the Zaouiat Aït Mellal tunnel.
At the toll booths, ADM accepts four ways to pay:
- the Jawaz electronic pass, in lanes marked with the Jawaz pictogram, which you drive through at 20 km/h;
- bank cards;
- ADM’s network card;
- cash.
A hire car only uses the Jawaz lanes if it carries a pass, so ask at the office whether yours has one; otherwise use the card or cash lanes. If you break down or have an accident on the motorway, ADM’s call centre number 5050 is posted every 10 to 12 km and answers 24 hours a day. GOV.UK adds a motorway warning: watch for overloaded lorries, and for trucks overtaking where there is no hard shoulder.
Day trips from Agadir by car
Morocco’s national tourism office (Visit Morocco) gives these distances and drive times from Agadir:
| From Agadir to | Distance | Drive time |
|---|---|---|
| Taroudant | 82.7 km | about 1 h 25 min |
| Essaouira | 174.9 km | about 2 h 55 min |
| Marrakech | 257.9 km | about 3 h |
The same source describes what to expect along the way:
- Taghazout, a few miles from Agadir: a former fishing village turned resort, known for surfing since the 1970s, with the spots Killer Point and Anchor Point nearby and beaches seven kilometres long.
- Souss-Massa National Park: home to 250 bird species, including the bald ibis, and at Tifnit to rock walls with carved-out dwellings abandoned long ago.
- Taroudant, set between two Atlas ranges: ramparts whose towers have stood for more than five centuries, souks known for leather and Amazigh jewellery, and argan oil cooperatives outside the walls.
- Essaouira, on the Atlantic coast: ramparts, a working fishing port, wind for surfers and kitesurfers, and the Gnaoua music festival every summer.
In Agadir itself, Visit Morocco points to a seafront 10 kilometres long, the Souk El Had with more than 6,000 shops, and the Kasbah, perched on a rock 236 metres high above the city. Planning a longer loop through the Atlas or towards the desert? Our guide to renting a car in Morocco has route ideas, and the Marrakech guide takes over once you arrive there.
Road rules and safety around Agadir
Morocco drives on the right. Green Motion’s Agadir page gives the usual speed limits as 60 km/h in towns, 100 km/h on secondary roads and 120 km/h on motorways, always subject to the signs. GOV.UK adds the points that matter most for a visitor:
- Alcohol: drink-driving is a serious offence; if a test finds any alcohol in your system, you face a fine and possibly prison.
- Night driving: poor lighting makes it dangerous to drive after dark, so stay alert to pedestrians, other vehicles and animals.
- Bad weather: secondary routes and mountain roads become especially hazardous.
- Emergency numbers: ambulance and fire 150, police 190, Gendarmerie 177.
After an accident. GOV.UK advises completing a “constat amiable”, an accident form signed by both parties. The Moroccan terms of Green Motion and U-Save also require you to contact the rental office straight away, obtain a police or accident report and photograph the scene with the vehicles involved, whatever package you chose. Without those documents the cover can be lost.
A short checklist for pickup and return
- Walk around the car with the agent and make sure every mark is on the condition report before you sign. Both terms state that a short-term rental has no margin for wear and tear, so film the bodywork, the wheels and the windscreen.
- Check the fuel rule printed for your package and photograph the gauge.
- Ask whether the car carries a Jawaz pass for the A3.
- Plan the return so you reach the office before 23:00 and within the 59-minute grace period, and allow time to get from the office back to the terminal.
- Have the car checked with you at the end and keep the final report.
Booking car hire at Agadir airport on Vrooem
At Agadir airport, Vrooem offers Green Motion, U-Save and EMR. In our search of 1 October 2026, for a rental from 4 to 11 November, the airport showed 80 cars: 28 from U-Save, 27 from Green Motion and 25 from EMR. Of those, 56 were automatics, and Green Motion and U-Save each listed people carriers with 7 or 9 seats. If you are torn between gearboxes for the hills inland, read automatic or manual.
For Green Motion and U-Save, Vrooem shows all four packages, from Basic to Premium Plus, before you pay, so you choose your excess and deposit level at home rather than at the office. For EMR, check the deposit and mileage lines shown with each car. Every Vrooem booking also includes a free travel eSIM, so you have mobile data the moment you land to call the branch from the terminal exit.
